My Cookie Cutter Collection

You may already know this, but I love making pretty cookies.  I find all kinds of fun excuses to make them… birthdays, parties, holidays… or any day I can send my children out of the house with hubby!
(In case you’ve missed them, HERE is my sugar cookie recipe and HERE is a simple decorating tutorial.)
One of the hazards of cookie baking is the “need” to collect lots and lots of cookie cutters.  The general line of thinking is, “I may need this shape… someday!”.  So, “just in case” I have collected just about every cookie cutter known to mankind!
Here they are…
I have to store them on a shelf in our garage, but I pulled them out recently to organize them.  From time to time my “miscellaneous” bin gets a bit full and then I add another category to my “system”.
The current categories are:
Basic Shapes
Sports & Vehicles
Beach & Luau
Ladies (purses, shoes, dresses)
Christmas (this is a larger bin!)
I also have one bin labeled “need to put away”.  This is really helpful when I have a bunch of cutters to put away, but don’t have the time to put them in their proper bins.  I throw them in the “need to put away bin”, and then file them later.
By chance are you feeling a sudden “need” to add to your cookie cutter collection?
Here are a few of my favorite sources:
Foose Cookie Cutters – A huge selection of tin cookie cutters, most range in price from $1.50-$1.95 each
Copper Gifts –  A really gorgeous selection of copper cookie cutters, as well as a nice selection of baking supplies (sprinkles, food coloring and more)
Ecrandal–  Great selection of copper cookie cutters, including many unique shapes.  Also great customer service and low shipping rates.
Sur la table– A nice basic selection of cookie cutters. And if you have a store near you, they sell most of their on-line selection in stores too.

  1. Neat, neat, neat!

I think the nicest things I have were also bought 'because I might need them some time', although I often have to live with the guilt of shopping unwisely…but when the opportunity to use them pops, then comes the pleasure of knowing you did the right thing!
I call it 'listening to your heart shopping' =)

    Best regards from Brazil! 😉

  2. So cool!! I love how you organize all your cookie cutters! Very neat! And you have loads of cutters! I'm envious! 😀

  3. How fun!I am convinced I have a cookie cutter obsession! My only saviour is that I live overseas and shipping is so expensive, so that holds me back a bit. Love your storage system- can I come over and play!??

  4. You are so good at all this Glory! I am always impressed. I love the copper ones. Was sent a link the other day to some. Im thinking I just might 🙂

  9. Great way to store them all!

I love cookie cutters but rarely make cookies (I'll eat too many!) – but I love the designs and I think they are fun for kids too – so I compromise and use them for biscuits, sandwiches, bento box foods etc. Of course they are most beautiful as cookies and on the major holidays we take advantage of that…

  10. This is a great idea! Thank you for sharing. I have been needing a way to organize my cookie cutters (and this will give me a good excuse to buy more!)

  11. ohhh, I can't believe there is someone out there "worse" then me but much better organized!!! 🙂 I understyand your need of having any kind of shape just in case….

  12. You have inspired me to organize my collection. It always takes me a while to find the one I'm looking for or I end up buying ones I already own. Another great source for cutters is which you told me about earlier this year. Gorgeous copper cutters and excellent service.

  13. Amazing collection!! I think I have enough cutters to fill 1 bin, but I just started getting into rolled cookies, so I have a long way to go before I get to this many!! 🙂

  21. I should show this to my husband just to prove to him I don't own that many. I've got two bins and he thinks I'm nuts.

  22. My cookie cutters are in very similar containers but after seeing this I think I should put them in better categories. Great idea, thanks.
